Red Dragon in imagined landscape - updated version.
Painters. Hayward, CA, 1968. | I met these two in a shed that occupied an otherwise empty lot. One day the doors were ajar so I walked in. They were working on their paintings. I asked, whatcha doin’? One of them gestured toward his friend then himself and said, he’s doin’ that and I’m doin’ this. I hung with them most of the summer. I showed them my art, they were kind and encouraging. I badgered them about how to get into shows, how to get discovered. Finally one of them said, listen kid, just because you’re good at something doesn’t mean you have to sell it.The shed was torn down later that summer, the guys vanished. I guess this little drawing is my way of saying thanks for some good advice.
Recently I received some unfortunate news (from a fan of my Facebook page) of art theft in regards to my work. A so called artist based in Canada was publishing my work on his website, Facebook page & Instagram claiming it as his own. He had dragged images from my tumblr blog and my Facebook page and took it an evil step further and decided to make prints from these images for sale. I WAS DEVASTATED.
For starters, I DO NOT DO PRINTS. I would like all the works I sell to be the only original version. This is a personal decision but something I strongly believe in. Also, all the images I post online are low res so his prints wouldn’t be clear. Even worse…he is selling my work at poor quality.
Dear followers, could you please reblog this. I want it to be known that this is a serious issue that artists face when they put their work online.
In case if any of you see what appears to be my work circulating in print form on any social media site please consult me. Once again, I repeat, I do not do prints. If it wasn’t for that lovely fan consulting me of this thief I would not have known and couldn’t file the legal steps I had taken to stop him.
So putting work onllne is a double edged sword. I have copyright now and know the steps to take to stop the illegal sale of my work. My intention is to let you know, so you are aware as you may help me or any other artist out in future. Thank you
